A two-time convicted felon will spend years in prison after making dozens of threats to murder, rape, torture, and otherwise harm state and federal elected officials, including several members of Congress and a former President.
Newport News resident Steve Cochran, 43, was sentenced to 41 months in prison after repeatedly making threats toward federal officials and their loved ones, according to federal prosecutors.

A Woodbridge man was taken into police custody nearly a year after he assaulted a 22-year-old woman, police said.In the evening of Dec. 13, 2021, Jefry Banegas Rodriguez, 22, became violent during an argument with his acquaintance near Dale Boulevard and Birchdale Avenue, according to the Prince William County Police Department.
Banegas Rodriguez was driving with the victim and prevented her from leaving his car, before he pulled her hair and hit her, authorities reported.
When the victim was able to get out of the car, Banegas Rodriguez forced her to get back in, officials said.

The man who threatened a Maryland doctor who publicly advocated for the COVID-19 vaccine after tracking down his personal information will spend time in federal prison, the Department of Justice announced.
Aubrey, Texas resident Scott Eli Harris, 52, was sentenced to six months behind bars, followed by three years of supervised release after threatening the doctor in Maryland, according to US Attorney Erek Barron.
