Fatal Two-Vehicle Crash Closes I-91 For Hours
One person was killed in a two-vehicle crash on I-91, closing the roadway for several hours early Thursday, April 11. The crash took place around 5:13 a.m., in the area of I-91 southbound, near Exit 6, in the City of New Haven, said the Connecticut State Police. Troopers from Troop I-Bethany responded, along with personnel from AMR, the Department of Transportation and the New Haven Fire Department. As Connecticut continues to dig out of a statewide debt, the Department of Transportation has laid out its preliminary proposed price point for tolls on major Connecticut roadways. In an effort to cut down on the state’s debt, Connecticut Gov. Ned Lamont has proposed a highway tolling system that could generate nearly a billion dollars annually. Serious Injuries Report In Wrong-Way, Head-On Crash On I-91
This story has been updated. A stretch of I-91 has reopened after a head-on crash involving a vehicle going the wrong way causing its closure for hours, state police said. The closure was on the northbound side in Wethersfield between exits 25 and 27 following the two-vehicle crash with what state police described as serious injuries. A 41-year-old man was the victim of a fatal single-vehicle crash after losing control of a tractor-trailer on I-91. Ashley L. Bennett, of Uniondale on Long Island was killed around 4:43 a.m. Friday near Exit 14 in Wallingford, said the Connecticut State Police. A 28-year-old area man has died from injuries sustained in a rollover crash on I-91, according to police. Korie Yu of New Haven was killed in the crash which took place during the early morning hours Wednesday on I-91 in Wallingford, Connecticut State Police said. A 27-year old woman was killed in a head-on collision while driving the wrong way overnight on northbound I-91. Katherine Gavidia of Hamden was killed just before midnight Thursday near Exit 8 in New Haven, said Connecticut State Police. An accident report provided by the state police said Gavidia was driving a 2006 Chevrolet Malibu south when she drove head-on into a Chevy Silverado driven by Thomas Murray, 29, of Cheshire.
